Before we begin this discussion on weapons I would like to state for the record that violence is strictly a last resort and only to be used if you are cornered and your life is in immediate danger or you must defend the life of someone else. Even then you must do your utmost to avoid using lethal force. This is what separates you from your criminal opponants. In fiction comic book superheroes are costumed characters who are trying to beat the crap out of each other. That is all very entertaining but is strictly fiction. In real life we are supposed to be peace keepers. Violence is the last resort and can land you in jail as quickly as the criminal you are trying to stop. Having said all of that, let’s take a look at your options for personal protection. 1.Stun guns; These are an excellent means of defending yourself using non lethal force. They require contact with your attacker to deliver thousands of volts which will render most anyone incompacitated by over riding their nervous system. Stun guns come in a variety of styles including many that are disguised stun guns, such as stun cell phones, stun flashlights and even stun lip sticks. One popular type is the knuckle blaster which is made in brass knuckle configuration and can add electric power to your punch. Stun batons are also popular and can give you some distance between you and your attacker. These also include telescoping types. Taser; These are different than stun guns in that they fire two darts attached to wires that deliever 50,000 volts to your attacker at a distance of up to 15 feet. Now a word of caution about stun guns and tasers. Designed to be non lethal there have been and continue to be many deaths attributed to these devices. If a person has a weak heart they can be lethal, so never use these devices unless you have no other choice or you may find yourself charged with murder. Pepper spray; These have been around for quite some time and are a very effective means of non lethal defense. Shooting an opponant in the eyes will cause temporary blindness as it dilates the capillaries if the eyes. Mace; Also a spray that induces coughing, choking and nausea in your opponants. Both pepper spray and mace come in a variety of cannisters and even some disguised types. However like stun guns and tasers, pepper spray and mace may be illegal where you live. Always check with your local laws before purchasing these devices. These devices also must be used with extreme caution because they can get you arrested for assault and battery as did happen to Phoenix Jones last year. Steel batons; Another very effective means of defense and these too can come in telescoping forms for easy carrying. SAP gloves; These are gloves filled with steel that will give anyone a knock out punch. Knives; There is no such thing as a non lethal knife. I do not recommend you carry any form of knife as you can get in trouble with the law and you could accidently kill someone with it. Exotic martial arts weapons; These come in a variety of designs. Nunchakas, shirakans, katana swords, tonfa, etc. Unless you have extensive training using these types of weapons I strongly urge you not to carry them as they can do more harm to you than your opponant. Guns; There is only 2 things you can do with a gun. Shoot someone or shoot yourself, both have very negative end results. Now these days you can purchase rubber bullets on line, which are supposed to be non lethal but can be deadly up close. If you choose this option make sure you have a pernit to carry a concealed weapon and extensive training on how to fire, load and clean it. Once again just pulling a gun on someone can get you years in prison and firing it even more time. So be warned. Now I want to point out that many rlsh’s carry no weapons at all, like Life from NYC for example. The best weapon you have is your own body. Learn as much as you can about self defense. Take course in Karate, Judo, Aikido, Kung Fu or any of the martial arts. The more trained you are the safer you will be. Weaponless weapons; These are items that anyone can carry and are perfectly legal. 1. A hatpin; I always carry one on my belt. If someone grabs you from behind you can stab them with it and they will immediately release you, even if they are holding a knife to your throat from behind you can make them drop the weapon. Same is true of you should find yourself wrestling someone for their gun, heaven forbid. If so though stabbing them in the hand with the hatpin will make them release their grip on it. Stabbing someone in the bicep can paralyze that arm. There are many don’t though. Never stab anyone in the chest as you can puncture the pericardium and kill them instantly. never stab anyone in the eyes as not only will they be permanently blinded but if you penetrate deep enough the hatpin will enter the brain and kill them. Never stab anyone in the throat as that too can be fatal. 2. Marbles carried in a leather pouch; You can buy these on line and they make an effective blackjack of offense or tossing the marbles behind you to slow down your opponants if you are being chased. 3. A plastic film cannister containing sand, ground glass or cayenne pepper can make a defensive weapon if you pop the top and toss it into someone’s eyes. 4. Powerful flashlights of 800+ lumens can be used to blind your opponent quite effectively. 5. Personal alarms; Devices that emit sounds over 120 decibels that will cause your opponant to place his hands over his ears in pain. These too can be purchased on line. 6. Fighting canes; Ordinary canes made from very hard wood can be used as a very effective weapon. I recommend you practice with this at home before trying it in the field. You can go to a hardware store and purchase two 2 foot long steel pipes that screw together and add rubber grips to each end. A coat of paint and it will look like an ordinary walking stick until you unscrew them and you now have a steel baton in each hand. I’m sure others will add their own opinions on the pros and cons of carrying weapons. Knight-Hood |

I’m okay with the Flash Light and Personal Alarms, but by and large I’m personally against the use of weapons. You don’t really “need” them. Especially if you’re smart and armor up and especially if you thought to undergo extensive training before hand and especially if you understand true power. Actually, now that I think of it, I’ll make a separate thread about Power, and the ingredients of it. In a way, it’s kinda like a weapon; I personally think it’s much more powerful than traditional weapons, but it all depends on how bad you want it and how far you’re willing to go. –204 |

I really like your hatpin idea I’d never thought of it before but it seems like it could be very effective in giving you a second or two or counter their initial attack. Another thing to think about is a headlamp. They may look kind of….. Well silly but without having to hold onto your flashlights it leaves you with both hands free. Also since in theory your going to be Keeping eyes on your opponent your beam can always be in their face making it very hard to see and destroying their night vision so that when you turn it off you will still have 3-4 seconds of blindness without them knowing where you are |

Personally I think that words should be a weapon, of course if things get out of hand then you may need a weapon to separate you from the criminal. I believe that you should try and talk down e situation first before running in there weapons drawn. However I think that in case of combat, a weapon in necessary because sure it will not be fair but who needs to be fair when lives may be at risk. I personally would use a Jo staff, I have one of these and they can be used to push away and disarm someone. Also there is a spinning technique that would put your opponent off from attacking as it would seem as though there is no way of getting through |

Personally, I prefer to use my default weapon of choice. The minds of my opponent. Think about it. Who makes your opponents moves? Who knows who his affiliates all are? Who knows his innermost secrets and insecurities? Well, he does. So, logically, your enemy is your greatest ally in controling your enemy. You don’t need weapons. Well, I don’t. Plus, weapons are all around you. The metal piece that opens a soda can. That little girl on the ice rink close enough to you and whose light enough to hoist safely and whose skates can cause some damage. The pavement can be a weapon, walls, ceiling. Fire exstinguisher, ceiling tiles. Chairs and other obstacles. A lighter. A cigarette could be used as a weapon (Just last night I used a lit cigarette as a weopon to protect a friend of mine from himself). Weapons are all over the place. Your weapons come from knowledge, and knowledge is power, you should know most importantly yourself, so you can better control yourself; your enemy, so you can better control your enemy; and you’re environement, so you can better control your environment, for what is power but simply control? Bring any weapon you want at me. I’ll stop you. Make yourself and your enemies your weapons. –204 |

I carry around a Metal Cap Gun that fires nothing but a loud BANG! If somebody is being robbed or hurt, From a distance this can scare your enemies away. Also in the dark if they come at you and you draw this at them. They can’t tell if it’s a fake so that’s your opportunity to take them down and bring them in. |

Of course anything can be used as a weapon but why not carry a weapon that you are familiar with, for example of course you could walk up and grab a chair to defend yourself. But I highly doubt that you train at home with a chair. I understand what you are saying though. And I agree that they are your weapon. |

Kevin thorn- that sounds like a fast way to get shot either by a civilian a criminal or a police officer. In many states threatening someone with a fake gun they believe to be real can carry the same penalty as using an actual gun. Wave- I agree in not using violence unless absolutely necessary it is much better to use a weapon you are familiar with and have trained with there is already to much left to chance in a self defense situation having a weapon you a comfortable with should not be one of them |

@Red: LOL, I actually do train with chairs XD I’m goofy that way. I like training with weapons I can create from my environment. I practice making them, defending with them, and attacking with them, but not so much emphasis on attack. I also train in if someone else is coming at me with a chair or something. Defending a chair is fairly easy, just grab a leg and shove it backwards or pull it forward with your leg out right at his groin. Train in using your environment to your advatnage. The metal piece that opens a soda is similar to the hat pin idea to cause a withdrawal reult. Having a lighht can pack your fist but also if your in a hold lighting the light on their hand will definitely loosen their grip. If they’re a girl and you smell hairspray (use your senses) light her HAIR on fire. I guearentee she’ll get out of your hair then…haha, no pun intended. As for violence, I don’t agree in ever using violence. There’s always something you can do that doesn’t cause them much harm. It’s called self defense. Defend, but don’t punish. Violence just begets more violence and aggravates an already unsavory situation. Just my opinion. –204 |

I agree with Errah on the basis of holding a gun can be worse for you. Even maybe than the person you are trying to warn away. 204, I think that’s a brilliant idea. That way you don’t pose a threat at all until you are being threatened. Small, concealable weapons would be the best if any. For example, a can. When not opened it could be used to stun and when open it can be used as a minor distraction. No matter who you are, you will most likely always react when getting coke thrown over you. The average criminal isn’t going to train in dulling his reactions. |

True dat. Similiar to using words as weapon, I too prefer a more indirect approach. Using psychology and manipulating human nature to do my bidding. Mind control tactics and whatnot. As a great man once said (Napolean, i think) “Mind will always triumph the sword.” –Hero Boy |

One of the most powerful weapons you’ll ever have is your posse. If you don’t have a posse, it’s fairly easy to start developing a posse for future use if necesarry. Posse’s can be weapons against the most violent and dangerous and most mundane of things. From the street, to the board room, to the government, and to a simple conversation or argument. Always have a posse. –Hero Boy |

I don’t think Hitler is a great role model, but you’re right in saying that his way of seizing power was good. However hitler in particular did use force and put down his opponents for power. Honestly though the best way to shut down an opperation is to think. Of course you could run in and tear things apart but thats not justice. The beat way to get what you want is evaluation |

Haha, right you are; that isn’t justice, (well, I suppose it would depend upon the situation). I personally am not an avid defender of justice. I could care less if a criminal goes to jail or not. I’m a defender of the people, and, at times, even for criminals. I don’t see crimefighting as fighting criminals or sending criminals to jail. For me, crime fighting is taking a criminal, planting the first seeds of liking me into his mind, then using those seeds to manipulate him, and over time gradually brainwashing him into a productive member of society. All of which are forms of warfare and psychological intimidation of varying degrees. But in the end, one less criminal would be on the streets and one less criminal we’d have to babysit, and one more productive member of society on the streets with no cost to anyone. And, I admit, I also prefer this approach because it helps build my posse. Making friends is the key ingredient in developing your posse. All you have to do is make people like you, and like themselves for liking you, and from there you can be much more impressionable on him/her, and can get inside his mind and command him like a puppet without him even knowing it, and you’ll have him eating out of your hand. My posse is my army, and I am their general. A general is a leader, and in order to be a good general you have to be proficient in leadership and the first thing about leadership is the mental and physical wellbeing of your soldiers. Yes, I manipulate people and use human nature to do my bidding for me without ever having to lift a finger more than a few times a month. I may delude them into thinking they’re happy and would have always been as loyal to me, and I may use their bloodties to further coerce my chess pices into positition to fulfill my own agenda, but, I am not stupid enough to think that they all won’t turn on me if I make an oopsie. And so, I go out of my way to make them feel all warm and fuzzy inside and have happy, happy lives, and know, that when I need it, I’ll always have somebody who would be more than willing to do me a favor. I don’t lead them into thinking they are in fact soldiers. That could be counterproductive. Like the mountain man, best to do as much as possible with very little and conserve your assets. The friends I have, the “Posse” I’ve developed with cells around the globe, are basically sleeper agents. I maintain relationships, doctoring each role to specific individuals to make everyone feel as happy as I can, and then, when I need something, I have tons and tons of options and assets to help me out, and that’s how you should use your posse, and this is where Hitler comes in. Hitler is a rolemodel, but don’t mistake that for “Hitler was a cool guy.” He was violent, sadistic, and psychopathic. BUT, he sure knew how to gather a posse. He knew how to get power, and he knew how to hang onto it. He was an amazing leader, TERRIBLE, but great. I, as you most likely do, have the capacity to take from him valuable lessons and disregard that which is not of use to me, which is why it’s important to study several men of power, and not just one. For example, he commanded human psychology in such a way that not only got locals to like him, but like themselves for liking him, controling their minds and getting them on his side. Now, the precise way he did it isn’t what’s important. The important part is breaking it down; simplifying things and discerning the unique ingredients necesarry. HIS most powerful weapon, was his posse, and he formed it quickly, and efficiently. The lesson learned from him, is have a posse. In combat or other battle, be it on the streets or in the meeting, or simply attending the same job interview as “that other guy”, having a posse (i.e. having people like you [better if you make them like themselves for liking you]) then the more of an advantage you have, the more POWER you have, and the more people will stand up to back you up, protect you, and aid you. Another lesson is learned from Hitler. He fell from power by eventually losing his posse, and when he lost his posse, he lost everything and did not have a contingency plan, and so one night, he killed himself with his mistress instead of face the fires of Justice, which, either way he was going to die and he would have preferred it to be by his own hand. In a sense, he was the cause of his own undoing, as is popular amongst many other men of power, lesson being know how to properly guide and use your power lest it betray you. Don’t get cocky. Just because Hitler was a violent dictator doesn’t mean he has a lot to offer budding warriors and fledgling men of power which will shape our future. Much in the same way that I don’t have to be Christian to read and appreciate the lessons in scripture and other religious albeit dogmatic texts. Within everything coexist the forces of good, and evil. Wielding and commanding true power is just like having a gun. There’s a time and a place for it, and not everyone should have it, and you should always know the rules and how to use it. Everyone, dictators, politicians, pedestrians, children; EVERYONE, is a rolemodel in my eyes, because everyone, no matter how great or young, has something of use to offer to me. –Hero Boy |
